Sustainable heating for the future – Bravida helps Mekoprint to reduce its climate footprint

Mekoprint, a leading Danish manufacturer of components for industry, had a clear goal: to enhance its sustainability profile and reduce its climate footprint. The assignment to deliver an energy-efficient solution was given to Bravida Denmark – and the result is worth highlighting.

To reduce its carbon emissions and achieve its sustainability goals, Mekoprint needed a new solution to replace the company’s existing gas heating system. Martin Jacobsen, energy consultant at Bravida, explains that the process began with a thorough mapping of Mekoprint's needs.

“We analysed the company’s energy use and their ambitions to reduce their carbon footprint. Based on this, we sized the heat pumps to optimise both performance and energy efficiency.”

The result was the installation of two modern heat pump systems to replace the previous gas heating system. With the new technology, Mekoprint can reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by as much as 200 tonnes per year and save 810,000 kWh of energy annually.

The collaboration with the customer went smoothly, but Martin Jacobsen emphasises the importance of not only focusing on the company’s total energy consumption but also understanding how and when the energy is used. This insight is crucial to being able to size the heat pump solution correctly and provide for optimum energy efficiency in practice.

In addition to the environmental benefits, the project has also resulted in significant economic gains through lower operating costs. Mekoprint has not only strengthened its sustainability profile but also enhanced its competitiveness as a supplier to customers who value environmental responsibility highly.

“We are proud to be able to help our customers achieve their sustainability goals. This project shows how we can create value through technical solutions that make a concrete difference,” says Martin Jacobsen.

Through the collaboration with Bravida, Mekoprint has taken a big step towards a more sustainable future and shown that a combination of the right technology and a holistic perspective can make a big difference for both the climate and the economy.

Martin Jacobsen’s tips for transitioning to sustainable heating systems:

  • Do an energy analysis: Understand current energy use and identify potential savings before switching to a sustainable heating system.
  • Choose the right technology: Choose a heat pump that suits your company’s needs and ensure that the system is correctly sized to achieve maximum efficiency. For Mekoprint, we focused on ensuring effective interaction between the heat pump and the existing gas boiler, so the system automatically activates the gas boiler when the heat pump cannot deliver sufficient heat.
  • Think long-term: View the transition to sustainable heating systems as a long-term investment which is adapted to future energy markets and technology.
  • Collaborate with experts: Work with experienced advisors to select and install the right system and ensure efficiency.
  • Focus on long-term gains: Consider long-term savings and environmental benefits even though the initial investment may be higher.
  • Involve employees: Communicate sustainability goals to all stakeholders to generate support and understanding.
  • Monitor the system: Monitor and evaluate system performance to optimise and ensure long-term efficiency.
